Flying Lotus scores forthcoming ‘Blade Runner’ prequel
Flying Lotus has scored a new animated short film preluding the forthcoming Blade Runner 2049 sequel. The new short film, Blade Runner Black Out 2022, was written and directed by Shinichiro Watanabe of Cowboy Bepop. The film is the third in a series of prequels taking place in the years between the original 1982 Blade Runner and the forthcoming sequel. FlyLo even went on to share his excitement via Twitter.
Just finished work on a new project. One of those dream come true type deals. . Life is crazy.

First things I thought was how cool it would be to get kuedo and @MiguelAtwdFrgsn involved too. It all came out so good. Really proud of it.

The news of Flying Lotus’ latest cinematic venture arrives just as reports that composer Jóhann Jóhannsson is no longer involved in scoring Blade Runner 2049 surface. Flying Lotus’ film debut, Kuso, was released in June. Now the artist is embarking on a 3D show tour across North America this fall. So far, the only official footage of FlyLo’s involvement is a Japanese promotion clip for Blade Runner 2022, below.
