Icon Spotlight: October
Icon Collective has solidified its reputation as the premier educational facility for electronic music production on the West Coast. The North Hollywood arts school has become a breeding ground for the next generation of talent, as evidenced by its formidable track record, which includes the likes of Jauz, MAKJ, Slander, SNBRN and more.
To spotlight some of the amazing talent coming out of the school, we’ve teamed up with Icon for a new series highlighting tracks from the past month from both current students and Icon graduates.
Kicking off this month’s spotlight is 28mm, a recent Icon graduate specializing in cerebral techno and tech house. New track “Bokeh” for LA underground imprint Understated exemplifies his dark, minimal approach. In a similar vein, Fantom Freq & Late Niite team up for a clean, funky house cut “All I Need” for House of Hustle.
On the bass tip, Icon family TWiNSCALE and The Khan Don deliver their savvy collaboration “Clockwork,” a stunning exposé of forward-thinking sound design. Meanwhile, Voorhees offers some rare liquid drum ‘n’ bass, melding organic piano and string work with a smooth drum arrangement. Lastly, Hansaa teams with soso and A.CHAL for a gorgeous R&B collaboration titled “Primavera.”
