Nick Hook & DJ Earl drop new album ’50 Backwoods’

Brooklyn producer Nick Hook and Teklife’s DJ Earl have released their collaborative album 50 Backwoods. The duo converged at Hook’s Brooklyn studio and conceived the entire project in the span of one week. Wiki, Melo-X and Jamaican MC Jacks are featured on the hip hop album, which possesses considerable influence from dub, footwork, and dancehall styles.

The sin wave wobble on intro track “Calculate” alludes to UK garage and dub while tracks “Energy” and “Mood Right Now” serve as bubbly, new wave hip hop ballads. Tracks “We the People” and “I’m Smokin” take a more ominous turn compared to their aforementioned counterparts while the album’s closing track, “Alice,” is a hypnotic instrumental to close out the project. The duo certainly have chemistry, and the release is sure to be a crowd favorite.

Hook and Earl are on tour now to support the album.
