DJ Snake – Magenta Riddim
One of dance music’s most decorated acts, DJ Snake, has released his first track of 2018 — a savory trap tune entitled “Magenta Riddim,” via Geffen Records. The track’s title may be confusing to listeners who recognize riddim as a wonky, reggae-tinged dubstep sub-genre, which has made an explosive entrance to the US scene in recent years.
Make no mistake: “Magenta Riddim” is a glowing example of Snake’s emblematic trap and dancehall sensibilities. The track is a cultural conflation, with thudding, Caribbean-style drums, Middle Eastern flute melodies, and island vocals.
The tune follows the the Grammy-nominated producer’s grooving collaboration with Lauv, “A Different Way,” a notable notch Snake’s rather scant 2017 release record. And, with Ultra Miami just around the corner, it’s likely the French superstar has more heat up his sleeve.
