Popular revolt: Diplo’s takeover of Electric Area panned
Diplo‘s Revolution is not a popular one: the producer’s takeover of Sirius XM‘s Electric Area was met with widespread derision.
A hub for electronically oriented live streams and podcasts like Above & Beyond‘s Group Therapy and Claude VonStroke‘s Birdhouse Radio, Sirius XM’s Electric Area channel (#52) was a favorite preset for listeners of electronic music. XM recently replaced the channel, replacing the radio favorite with Diplo’s Revolution on March 23. While the instatement of a Diplo devoted XM channel is good news for fans of the Major Lazer constituent, many are displeased with the disappearance of Electric Area, and have taken to social media to express their discontent.
Also: I haven’t had a radio show myself in any form for a year, so this ain’t some self interest bullshit, just the point of view of someone who listened to Area in the car pretty much daily.
Also, no issue with Diplo. I like Diplo. Just not as much as I like Electric Area.

What the hell Sirius?! You change the best EDM station, Electric Area, and replace it with “Diplo Revolution”? If I wanted to listen to the same 10-20 songs every hour on the hour I would’ve just put on BPM. #bringbackelectricarea

Sirius XM has yet to respond to listeners’ complaints.
