DJ Mag’s Top 100 results were due out Wednesday but ended up getting leaked a few days early due to poor site security. It’s more or less my bucket list of performers to see. I have a lot of work to do and hope I can check them all out before my ear drums explode.
Armin reigns supreme again for the fourth year in a row. You can tell it’s been a great year for house music with new entries such as Afrojack, SHM, Avicii, Wolfgang, Dada Life, and Calvin Harris. What’s everyone think?

I wonder if these ppl are getting rated mainly based on their work as producers versus their live performances as DJs.
IMHO Calvin Harris, Dada Life, Martin Solveig, Avicii, SHM, Kaskade and Laidback Luke deserve to be ranked higher, Armin Van Buuren and David Guetta should be lower.
That’s just my opinion though, I guess a lot of people like other DJ’s a lot more.
I don’t get why the DJ Mag Top 100 is so important though, it’s just a popularity contest, it’s not about quality.

Afrojack at number 19 is a disgrace, and i say that as a Dutchman.. His music is really amateuristic and his livesets also suck cause it’s all the same. Same with David Guetta at place 2, who is not even a real dj but more a R&B/Pop/Hiphop producer now.. If someone said to me that songs like ‘Club can’t handle me’ and ‘One Love’ were produced by Timbaland, I would believe it.. So sad.
I’m really surprised Afrojack is ranked so much higher than Chuckie.
Also, I wish they broke it out by genre. Trance can’t be ranked on the same list as some DIRTYYYY DUUUTTCCHHH
I still can’t figure out why trance gets so much love. 7 of the top 10 are trance DJs/producers!? I mean, it’s okay to listen to occasionally, but how the hell am I supposed to dance to it?

djmag’s top 100 never ever ever ever ever ever reflects what’s going on in EDM, cant stress that enough. with that said, wolfgang gartner (who has a nearly flawless career), skrillex, avicii, dada life, kaskade, boys noize, dirty south should be way up that list. shame

i thought this was confirmed to be fake.. due to the fact that groups aren’t allowed in.. I.E. swedish house mafia.
1. I thought the same thing but apparently the results were leaked last year too.
2. I’ve seen a lot of DJ’s tweet “thank yous” about where their ranking.
3. Just saw an article on MTV about the results.
These 3 reasons make me think its real regardless of the SHM listing. I guess we will all find out tomorrow night though.
Damn I wish I was in London for the show tomorrow. Deadmau5, Fedde, Laidback, and AFROJACK all at Ministry of Sound (one of my favorite clubs in the world).
Swedish House Mafia posted on their Facebook NOT to vote for them. They said to vote for each artist separately since votes for SHM weren’t valid. So when I voted, I had Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello, and Axwell all separate.
That frustrates me for two reasons. Reason one: I think SHM would have been much higher on the list if people had known this. Honestly, it’s weird to me that Afrojack is higher than them. Reason two: I would have had two extra votes to give to other DJs. Maybe more of my favorites would have made the list (Sidney Sampson, Fake Blood, Aoki).
David Guetta as #2? this HAS to be a joke. I saw him last year and it was one of the worst performances I’ve seen, I got so bored during his set.
Voting should be just limited to people with ears and a brain. Obviously DJ Mag does not feel the same.

I dont agree with these rankings but I understand. Those DJ’s at the top are the most popular and attract the masses. No doubt they have merit but I do not believe that they are better than some of the other ones that are lower on that list. Either way lists like these simply represent what most people like and I dont need it to validate my taste in music. Im glad that house is finally getting the recognition it deserves.

– I have searched the web over and Trance isnt anymore popular than any other genre of electronic dance music, so why in the hell are they ranked so high? On top of that Trance isnt very “danceable” and the people that listen to it are so high on E how do they manage to get around to voting?
This past year was the year of dirty dutch & dubstep so I find it shocking those djs/producers arent ranked higher.. Chuckie has intense sets live, way better than Armin and David..

– You have to think of this as a worldwide poll. People all over Europe still eat Trance up. They LOVE that shit. Armin has been around forever and is still rockin. He’s going to be number one for awhile. Am I a fan of his? No. I was rockin to MSTRKRFT while he was on the big stage at EDC.

Those are both funny responses.
One, you say that Diplo should be on there, but hate Aoki for the same reason that Diplo is popular.
If you can understand something about aesthetics, then you would realize that there is a reason for dropping “random rock” and “old school hip hop” in the middle of a house set. If you really want to try to define your art as simply fitting into “one genre,” then that really shows your inability to recognize that all music types have some influence on one another.
Most of the new kids in the EDM scene came from the Hardcore/Post-hardcore scene of 2006-2008, which was heavily tied to the rap scene before/at the same time as that.
Armin van Buuren at the top of this poll is not a surprise. His radio show “A State of Trance” is still one of the most popular radio shows in Europe.
Why do you think EDM is getting a huge influx from the hardcore scene?
I agree that Armin’s #1 spot was no surpise. I admit I am a big trance fan, and even though I really don’t like Armin’s music and his radio show is, in my opinion, mediocre at best. That being said, he is an absolute workhorse and I’m happy for him. ASOT every week without fail. Always on tour. Started new radio show A State of Sundays. His newest album released conveniently a couple weeks before voting (not coincidentally, Gareth Emery’s album released around the same time and they both shared success in the poll). The dude also goes out of his way to interact with is fans. Hell he actually reads his forums and gives shout outs! Besides, Armin’s music is really a stepping stone for EDM newcomers who will eventually transition into appreciating the better sub-genres.
Sorry I never replied: this thing doesn’t email me when I get a reply. I think EDM is getting a lot of former hardcore kids because literally everyone I know personally who was a hardcore kid in high school is now listening to EDM. That and EDM-type music is all over the radio.
