Avicii New Years tickets sold out, explanations and apologies made

We revealed yesterday that Avicii would be playing at New York’s Pier 94 to ring in the New Year for 2012. $60 pre-sale tickets went live at Noon, and an astounding 2,500 were sold in minutes. Avicii’s manager, Ash Pournouri, has posted a letter to fans explaining the situation and the insane demand for the event. He writes that Pier 94’s legal capacity is only 6,000, and that in the heat of the moment, organizers agreed to release the remaining tickets on the site, tiered in price from $85-$165. The Avicii NYE site and WanTickets were both crashed by the rush, and WanTickets saw over 60,000 pageviews in two hours. Organizers are trying to right some of the sales wrongs by discounting over 400 of the people who were affected by the crash, but it appears that tickets are indeed sold out. The letter also indicates that Avicii will be giving away tickets on Facebook and Twitter in the lead up to the event, and that there may be a broadcast online. One thing’s for sure: those SHM tickets will be gone before you know it, so clear your schedules to be by a computer when they go on sale.
