Beats by Dre store opens in SoHo, NERO drops an intimate set for a handful of fans

Located at 67 Greene Street in New York City, the Beats by Dre pop-up shop celebrated its grand opening last night with an impromptu set by the UK dubsteppers, NERO. We were skeptical at first, unsure what an electronic act was doing performing at the grand opening of a store owned by a hip hop legend. But when we saw Dre vibing to the heavy bass and hip hop-influenced drum kicks it all started to make sense.  As electronic music continues to permeate popular culture, it is only a matter of time before one of the big name rappers spits a verse over a wobbling bass line – here’s hoping it isn’t Pitbull.

If you want to snag a pair headphones, make sure you get there soon —  the shop closes its doors on January 15th.

NERO makes their official New York City debut tonight at Webster Hall and if last night was any indication, you are not going to want to miss this show.  Full gallery after the break.
