Our full review of Cosmic Opera will be ready for tomorrow, but we thought we’d share the photos as an early weekend treat just to whet your appetite. The chandelier erected in Hammerstein Ballroom was one of the most beautiful production elements we’ve ever seen in an EDM show, but you’ll have to wait for our thoughts on everything from the opera singers to the acrobats to the lasers until toorrow. In the meantime, make sure to follow us on Twitter and Like us on Facebook so you know as soon as our review hits the web.

Concert was thoroughly underwhelming as a whole
When you say a 3D concert and hype it the way it was, you better see some ridiculous shit especially considering the competitors being skrillex n mau5 stage shows….
thursday was overall unorganized, the performances seemed out of place, the sound was simply not loud enough, however axwell crushed.
Friday tightened everything up, solid acrobatic performance with some girl on girl action, great opera intro, thomas gold was absurd…. and a great set from axwell at ear popping volume, viola!I really expected axwell overall to make some new melodic / orchestral intros, or do something a lil different with his music, instead it was a greatest hits concert… I can’t even listen to “one” anymore its been so overplayed. Wish he woulda taken it to another level
I agree with underwhelming. Definitely some kinks to fix for the next acts (actual storyline?, 3D mapping?, better soundsystem?). The best parts – DJs brought the energy especially Thomas Gold (who still is relatively unknown to your typical NYC SHM fan) and the lights were very good.
I agree. If Cohen wants a huge theatrical spectacle, needs to take advantage of the huge space he has managed to grab. That includes a better “performance” as well as a better sound system.
What was the story line? Thomas Gold was amazing. The edit he made for Judas to open was redic! Axwell pretty much played his greatest hits hour. Seriously can we please stop playing One, The Island and Sweet Disposition, those songs are old and played out. And I don’t care who is gonna save the world. Was dope though they had the mirrors above Axwell so you could see what he was doing. And yeah the girl on girl kiss was pretty hot. Over all good music strange and out of place performers.
well said, I feel like because of the fact that we are slowly losing hold of the underground part of EDM as it moves more mainstream, we get things like this…
big performers playing all the hits, every time, with 0 surprises, I like going to a show and seeing people do something different or get a lil funky with their mixes…It makes sense for the artist to do this for a crowd that has never seen or heard their stuff before, but where does it leave the hardcore fans….underwhelmed…how i felt after leaving the opera
