Deadmau5 is having a pretty good week. In addition to snagging the cover of the legendary Rolling Stone magazine, he also has a new EP out in four days. As we told you when the title track was released, The Veldt EP includes four tracks, including two remixes of the Chris James-infused track and a new track called “Failbait.” Remixes on the EP come from Tommy Trash and Freeform, and we’ve been digging the TT remix since we first heard it on the Essential Mix a few weeks back. The full EP will be available on June 24th through iTunes, but you can stream it for the next 24 hours on RollingStone.com.
While the full RS interview has not hit the web just yet, some juicy tidbits have.
Joel declares that “David Guetta has two iPods and a mixer and he just plays tracks,” and he even goes on to question the technical nature of Skrillex’s sets. While he admits to being a “button-pusher” too, he reminds the world that he’s “just pushing a lot more” of them. The mau5 also slams Madonna for her controversial question at Ultra, though he admits that “it’s not my place to say you’re irrelevant,” and wishes that she had entered the EDM word “with a little more dignity.” He even makes the analogy of saying that “it’s like talking about slavery at a fucking blues concert” before declaring it “inappropriate.” …
By the way, in case you were wondering if Deadmau5 would ever start making pop records, stop. The teaser hints that Joel feels those tracks are “formulaic,” and puts down their simplistic, predictable structure.
Needless to say we’re excited to read the full interview when it hits newsstands this Friday. Don’t forget to pre-order The Veldt EP on iTunes now.

ive always respected him not for being an amazing producer, but even more for being a down to earth person.
So the same old “Everybody sucks, except me and my marketing gimmick helmet” routine… Why do we bother interviewing him anymore?
I’ll probably take a lot of heat for this, but in my opinion Deadmau5 is one of the most overrated producers in EDM. There, I said it.
couldnt disagree with you more, you sir are an idiot
Exactly what the noob says. I will say some of his stuff is hard to listen to because it is so different. But he is a genius that beats by his own drum. His hits are better than any other songs, and he does not listen to the mainstream. You have to respect that.
deadmau5= a brilliant producer, has some legitimate concerns, but awful delivery of his concerns- he often just winds up sounding like a whining child and is totally ineffective. Plus- my personal feeling is… I don’t give a shit how many buttons any of these guys push, including deadmau5. I would see them because they are brilliant producers. And frankly Skrillex is twice the live performer as deadmau5, again, dont give a shit about the button pushing, but he always brings something unexpected in a set; multiple genres, productions from little-known artists- this is rare for an artist with such a mainstream appeal.
You’re absolutely wrong, man. I hate his personality but from a musical and engineering standpoint, this guy is one of the best producers out there.
The guy rehashes what others invented, nothing I’ve heard sounded original
the mau5 is dead, let it go..
nah, i think many would agree with you as well as disagree. He will produce something amazing and unique, and then something that is not so great at all.
The things he says are just stupid. he’s not at the top of the genre right now and he sounds desperate. I totally respect his ability and productions, was never a HUGE fan, but he’s borderline irrelevant right now besides his anti-madonna tirade and this interview. Let the music talk bro, Veldt was a decent track but nothing amazing, need to come out with more to be able to run your mouth off like this
Wait, what? Skrillex brings multiple genres in his set, productions from little-known artists? What the hell are you talking about?
To be honest, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that it doesn’t matter how much buttons you push while playing live. Sure it’s a great extra when a set is more interactive and there is a light show etc. But I think for EDM, your productions are far more important than what you do live.
WHATEVER HATERS °O°
Deadmau5 is a pioneer, genius, and the least irrelevant. He will survive long past 99% of the currently popular EDM artists.
I’m definitely hot and cold when it comes to Deadmau5. Guys an absolute prick I’ll say that. But some of his productions are absolute gold. However, other stuff he produces is indifferent, repetitive and frankly dull. However, he does have some stuff that I absolutely love.
^^THIS
Why the hell does he think he is above everybody and immune to criticism, whilst he hypocritically offers it at every turn. Guy doesn’t even use decks, yet has the balls to place himself as superior effort-wise, in his live shows when compared to most other producers.
He doesn’t deserve to be in the same breath as guys like A-Trak, Laidback Luke and even young guys like Madeon.
thank you, he gets a lot of shit for being a jerk, but he’s really not. he’s just super honest. he also is the most fan interactive of any of the big names out there by far. he has done so much for the edm world. MAD respect
