Swedish House Mafia is no more: “We came, we raved, we loved.”

It is said that all good things must come to an end, and according to a message on SwedishHouseMafia.com, the union of Axwell, Sebastian Ingrosso, and Steve Angello — known affectionately as Swedish House Mafia — is no more.

“Today we want to share with you, that the tour we are about to go on will be our last. We want to thank every single one of you that came with us on this journey. We came, we raved, we loved.”

The message is signed by the three DJs individually, with the additional “a/k/a Swedish House Mafia” thrown in for good measure. Remaining tour dates include the legendary Milton Keynes Bowl on July 14th, dates at Ushuaia Ibiza July 4th – August 29th, and the aptly-named Friends Arena in Sweden on November 24th. There is also hint of a “final leg of this journey” that will be announced in August.

News of SHM’s breakup comes as a surprise to most of us here at Dancing Astronaut, but we will continue to follow Axwell, Seb, and Steve as they continue to pursue their wildly successful solo careers.

Every teardrop is a waterfall.

  1. this is just so that the milton keynes and the sweden event sell out and after a couple of months they will announce and epic comeback that will sell even more… just wait and see

  2. Damn it, instead of watching one person pressing buttons, while the other two shout “make some noise”, we will have to settle with one person doing both of those jobs…. where is the justice?

  3. made their millions selling bollocks, and faking rockstardom… Fake rockstars are even lower than crackhead groupies. I hope they all piss off and end up addicted to heroin.. If they manage to get off it after 5-10 year maybe they will finally make some real music.. but I doubt it. They were never musically inclined only fame junkies.

  4. They sucked without Eric Prydz anyways. All their productions were starting to sound the same.

  5. WTF DO THE BANDS THAT ALWAYS MEAN THE MOST BREAK UP, FORST WESTLIFE NOW SHM?!?!?! fml lemme go cry -.-

  6. I’m sure that with Prydz things would have been better but their music wasn’t starting to sound the same in my opinion..

  7. Prydz have never been part of “swedish house mafia”.
they released 5 tracks wich doesn’t sound the same at all and you think you can say they started to all sound the same ?

  8. except when you have already started repeating yourself. and stopped because you realized you were becoming more redundant & less relevant.

  9. Well they were already doing things separately. I don’t think bands can ever stay together for long. Everyone always wants something different. I’m not surprised.

  10. Was the saddest news I’ve heard in a long time. I’ve been fortunate living in Miami to see them live 5 times and I’ll always remember that in those moments seeing them live is a feeling like nothing else. This is a sad day for house music, this would be as if LeBron retired tomorrow after winning his first title. Hopefully this final leg will include Miami in it considering this is where it all started for them and after all the love and support this city has shown them we deserve a last ever Masquerade Motel

  11. Why why why? Together they were prog house gods. We just lost the best. Please say this is a hoax or a practical joke!

  12. There is a bigger message here. At this point, they’re bailing out while they can still make money on this. I think with the overpricing of festivals and these DJ’s being paid extravagant amounts, it’s going to get to a point where people are going to ask, why? And while dance music will NEVER die, the EDM trend that is going on right now will die. And it’s the overpricing that is going to kill it.

  13. This was a long time coming. if you have seen them lately they lost their group dynamic and apparently arent even on real speaking terms. Maybe we’ll finally stop hearing “Save the World”

  14. The answer to their break up is very simple, Money. Remember the list that came out recently of the DJ’s net worth?

    http://www.celebritynetworth.com/articles/entertainment-articles/30-richest-djs-world/

Surprisingly, SHM is at the bottom; even the 3 combined doesn’t move them up the list significantly. Rumor has it that this was a huge eye opener for the SHM camp. At the end of the day, SHM, as a group, is a bad business model for the evolving EDM climate.
It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to crunch the numbers. Why should the 3 of them DJ all at once, getting a paycheck less than for what they would get DJing individually? Not to mention, DJing individually, they get to play music of their own choosing, and promote their own up-and-coming artists. Does it not make sense for them to DJ festivals individually, get paid more, with the fans getting 2x-3x more of their music? The only sacrifice is that you dont get to see all 3 of them behind the decks; or should I say 1 of them behind the decks and the other 2 with their hands up.
This would truly be a shame if this is the end of SHM. There is no denying that when these 3 get together in the studio, nothing short of phenomenal is going to be produced. Its obvious that money was not a priority when they initially formed the SHM group; but Money is clearly the reason for why SHM is coming to an end. Maybe they are taking a page out of Michael Jordan’s, Jay -Z ‘s, Floyd Mayweathers’ book? Is this a “business retirement”? The EDM fan can only hope so.

  15. no way i cant believe it i am so sad now holy shit whyyy????? thank god i will be able to see them together next month!!!!!!! really sad and disappointing
