If you haven’t heard of kaZantip by now you have probably been living under a rock. This 6 week long party on the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine has been hailed as the most decadent dance music experience in the world. At this year’s kaZantip, Sasha opened the infamous event with an immaculately crafted performance that set the stage for the rest of the “festival.” (Can you really call a 6 week long dance party a festival? I’m not really sure.) So turn the volume up, close your eyes, lean back in your uncomfortable office chair, and let Sasha’s smooth grooves transport you to kaZantip – then book your flight for next year.

so funny seeing people who don’t know anything about this music suddenly becoming involved. Where were you a couple years ago?
It is confusing to me when RA posts something and then every blog in exsistence copies that same video – there are hundreds of videos from kazantip. How about discussing Kazantip residents or the hundreds of no-name dj’s that a get a chance to play days on end in accordance to how the crowd reacts to them. Slapping Sasha on a title may get you traffic but you have told me absolutely nothing about what he did or what kind of set he played. Just do a bit more research if you are going to post on this stuff.
Isn’t the point of dance music to allow people to grow and develop their tastes? Are you saying that DA can’t enjoy deep house because they didn’t a few years ago? What kind of argument is that? You don’t need to know the entire history of dance music to enjoy a great mix like this – stop being a pretentious douche – just because you were “first” doesn’t make you cool.
Have you ever been to Kazantip or are you just regurgitating what you’ve read on the internet to pretend you are some sort of “expert.” Nowhere in his post did he claim to be an “expert” he just shared an incredible mix to a bunch of DA readers who may have never heard it otherwise – thats call doing a service to the scene – your attitude is the problem.
A couple of years ago I was listening to dubstep and drum and bass in dirty warehouses, I jumped around like a psychopath to dutch house, enjoyed the life changing sets of Above and Beyond, I was guilty of playing “Seek Bromance” too many times, I obsessed over everything Ed Banger released, burned countless Justice CDs for all of my friends, had my ear drums blown out by Boys Noize, grooved to Fare Soldi and Gigamesh and got deep into disco house. As my tastes developed, I explored the vast sea of electronic music – which is the entire point of writing about music in the first place. It’s an open forum to share what you like – do I need to ID every track in this mix to enjoy it and want to share it with our readers? I like MUSIC, of all types and varieties, and I like sharing it. There isn’t anything more or less to be said. Musical discovery is a journey – it’s not an exclusive club.
you do need to know the entire history of dance music to RESPECT and EDUCATE people about it.
the fact that you have people who just got into this music barely a year ago is just mind boggling. at least get someone on your team that knows the ins and outs of this HUGE part of dance music. not someone that can dance around really well with words and get their facts off wikipedia.

Oh? So what you are saying is that you need to watch a documentary about dance music and read some articles and then you can be an expert? Unless you yourself grew up in Detroit or Chicago during the rise of techno and house then you aren’t an expert either.

i dont believe thats what he/she is saying. i think what they are saying is learning the history of something is the whole meaning of respecting it. by you guys now all of a sudden exploring “underground” as the rise of what you ingrates call “EDM” (which is a new found acronym – its DANCE music, no need to add the electronic part, it goes without saying) is just all too fishy. You dont have to have been in Paradise Garage to haveknown what a staple it was to the NYC club scene today or have been there when Frankie Bones was first scratching and throwing the first raves ever, but its simple facts like that (that clearly arent shown in any of Gabi’s posts) that prove to your readers that you genuinely do care and you aren’t doing it to be “cool”.

DA seems to be (and have always been) for fans discovering things, by fans discovering things, and I appreciate that. I think it’s awesome they’re digging house and techno more now.
Just going to throw something out there from a business standpoint. If you are going to dive into new territory, you should hire someone who has been in that territory for a while and knows what is going on. When you have someone who is just learning running the underground dance music portion of DA you loose credibility, respect, and the chance of establishing a loyal “underground” fanbase. It is great to share the music…it is just upsetting that a blog with over 100,000 unique users a month can’t find someone with real DM knowledge to educate that audience.
Co-sign on EDM, I actually hate the term. I think really only Americans use the term. it’s Kind of like before when everyone said techno for all dance music.

I know intent was introduce the topic that has been taking place but it may it seem like he was an arbiter cool, which caused the above commentor to pounce. .
the responses on this post are absurd. everyone here was listening to blink 182 12 years ago. everyone here has been influenced by the popularity of dance music in the us. and those of you who are pretending to have been on deep house for 15 years. well that sucks. you are probably in need of serious rehab . also as someone like spada who simply enjoys discovering new musc, this post is perfect. i dont want to read a long paragraph about the history of deep house, who the fuck cares. are you guys serious? like seriously, who the fuck cares if this educates you
I’m not sure, but i think most of DA’s readers are pretty new to the scene… myself included. This would encourage them to hire writers who can better connect with their audience. Also, I think it’s pretty difficult to find a writer, who is 1. good with words, 2. experienced the original rave scene and 3. won’t be a pretentious douche.
You realize you’re not helping when you get all defensive about this stuff? Aren’t you happy to share it with more people? I’ve tried to convert as much people to dance music as I can, encouraging them to listen to whatever genre suits their taste. If that means David Guetta gains more fans instead of Sasha, so what? Just means the universe is falling into place. People with different opinions can go see the Guetta show while members of the deep house family won’t deal with people who don’t really belong.
In the end, it’s all about the love.
