Editors’ Selections: Week of April 8th, 2013

Editors’ Selections is an opportunity for your favorite Dancing Astronaut contributors to talk about some of the music they’re listening to that we might not always get an opportunity to post about from week to week. Sometimes it’s out there, sometimes it’s obscure, but you’ll always get a peek into what we’re loving behind closed doors.

Cara:

Rhye – Open (MK Remix)

Rhye’s debut album Woman has been heating up the indie scene as of late, so what better time for master-remixer MK to take a crack at one of the LP’s singles, “Open.” A song that was once a late night Sade-esque slow roller, is now a upbeat house jacker. Don’t worry — Robin Hannibal’s vocals work perfectly still.

Dan:

Sharam Jey/Bunny Tiger – The Time!

Behind the guise of Bunny Tiger, Germany’s Sharam Jey has set a pretty tight precedent for the realms of nostalgically poised club fuel. Latest vocal offering, “The Time” hits the perfect middle ground between disco’s diva days and modern deep-churning house music that those who fall shy of the 80’s can still digest.

Allegra:

Guillaume B. – Bounce (La’Reda Remix)

This week Coachella has me craving all things California — La’Reda’s remix of Guillaume B.’s “Bounce” included. The LA/UK duo took on young Miami-based Guillaume B.’s Latin flavored tune, making the brass less brash and the feel more big room than ballroom. With a dub-infused breakdown and dynamic WAV-form, the song is just the right amount of unexpected.

Andrew:

Mr. A. and Something Good – B.A.B.E. (StardonE Remix)
Cara keeps bugging me to write my editor’s choice for the week from the Indio desert and, as I sit here poolside staring aimlessly at the mountains, StardonE’s remix of “B.A.B.E.” shuffles next onto my iPod. Talk about serendipitous — there couldn’t be a better soundtrack for the start of my favorite weekend of the year. It’s a surefire way to shake off the winter blues.

Matt:

Tom Hades – Inside The Cave (Original Mix)

While Andrew reclines poolside in Indio preparing for Coachella, I huddle deskside in Washington halfheartedly tackling a final exam. Despite being worlds away from him both physically and figuratively, we find ourselves strangely united under pressure from a certain valued editor to pick our songs for the week. No serendipity in the District for me, I open iTunes and scan for a song to capture the bleakness of the scene. Ahh the aptly named “Inside the Cave” by Tom Hades. For all my fellow pale and beleaguered students laboring under the semester’s end whilst their friends get tans and thrills this weekend, this one’s for us.
