Weekend Rewind: Calvin Harris’ first hit single ‘Acceptable in the 80s’

Six years ago after being discovered on MySpace by Tommie Sunshine, Adam Wiles — real name Calvin Harris — went on to sign a contract with Columbia Records, spurring his debut album, I Created Disco. “Acceptable in the 80s” was released as the album’s second single and peaked at the #10 position on the UK singles chart, heralding the young Dumfries, Scotland native as a beckoning force within dance music. Far more disco-latent than his recent productions, the track features a youthful, uptempo vibe with a hook that is certainly memorable. Calvin went on to record two songs for Kylie Minogue’s X album, “In My Arms” and “Heart Beat Rock,” after successfully entrapping her attention with this single.
