What are Skrillex and Diplo doing with Waka Flocka Flame?
“‘Club jumpin’ like I’m Skrillex, get ‘em Diplo…’ The King of Rap EDM is me. I’ve been there. Punk rap, that’s EDM. People didn’t understand what I was saying, now they do. I see a lot of my students, I’m like the principal, I’m here to talk.” – Waka Flocka Flame
Atlanta’s Waka Flocka Flame is the latest name to be linked to electronic entities. Referring to himself as “The King of Rap EDM,” Waka has confirmed that he’s working with Skrillex, Diplo, Flosstradamus, along with other underground artists. The rapper refers back to his SXSW experience as a focal point in his turn to electronica, stating: “The Southby experience, it was all EDM…trap music. I went down there only for the ultra. That shit was crazy.”
Waka Flocka Flame’s next album, Flockaveli 2, will be released this October, but it is not yet confirmed if that is the electronic album he is currently producing. All we know of his EDM album is what he’s mentioned, and that is: “That shit hard. It’s hard. It’s haaaaard.”
