Axwell + Seb, Jeremy Olander, Solomun headline this week’s Essential Selection

Summer is just beginning — Ibiza had its opening fiestas last weekend, festivals in the UK are all gearing up for their rainy fates, and Pete Tong is prepping the dance music world for some of the season’s memorable anthems. This week’s Essential Selection kicks off in usual fashion, wasting no time delving into the freshest records from commercial artists. As expected, there was Axwell’s “Center of the Universe” (a former Essential New Tune), Tiësto’s first original of 2013 “Take Me” with Kyler England, a full version of the very new Bingo Players’ remix of Dada Life’s “Boing Clash Boom,” and the world premiere of Axwell & Sebastian Ingrosso’s new track “Roar” for Disney’s new Monsters University.

Pryda protege Jeremy Olander was selected for the “Goody Goodies” — choosing a remix from the young and promising Richie G, a track from his own Dhillon moniker, and a bootleg of his played recently on his own Vivrant Radio. Tong allowed listeners to relieve a bit of the Ibiza opening parties from the previous week, playing Nicolas Duvoisin’s “People Dance,” the new Bicep & Simian Mobile Disco collaboration “Sacrifice,” and crowing the Essential New Tune as Solomun’s remix of the Foals’ “Late Night.”

In the newer segment on the show, Pete Tong’s Hall of Fame, he appropriately selected the late Romanthony as this week’s inductee, playing “Hold On” off Thomas Bangalter’s Roule. Before using the last twenty minutes or so to play part of a live recording of Disclosure’s set from Derry/Londonderry’s Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Hunter/Game off Sasha’s Last Night on Earth played two of their records off Hot Creations and Last Night on Earth to indicate just why they were chosen as this week’s Future Stars, like so much promising talent before them.
