Avicii scores fastest-selling single of the year with ‘Wake Me Up’

Avicii topped the UK singles chart in under two hours when he released “Wake Me Up” last week, setting the scene for a record breaking performance. The lead single off his debut album, TRUE, has already sold about 267,000 copies — making “Wake Me Up” the fastest-selling single of the year in the UK. The track beat the previous record holder, Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines,” by roughly 76,000 copies, also awarding Avicii with the greatest single-week sales since The Justice Collective’s 2012 “He Ain’t Heavy.”
Editors Note: “Wake Me Up” is Avicii’s second UK chart-topper following February’s “I Could Be The One,” and a record setting 2011 in which he claimed two top-five hits.
