In commemoration of reaching the 1 million Twitter follower milestone, Diplo’s released his collaboration with Mike Posner, Boaz Van De Beetz and Riff Raff “Crown” for free via Soundcloud yesterday. A sharp departure from Diplo’s Major Lazer outputs, “Crown” pairs Posner’s pop crooning with Van De Beetz blaring Dutch synths and the wonky drops that define the Mad Decent sound. Clearly suffering from genre-identity disorder, the Dutch-laced, pop-fueled, trap-energized über crossover also includes the strangely appealing rap touches of self-parodying Riff Raff, whose flow gets a codeine-laced makeover in the track’s final verse.
