burn Residency announces winners
After introducing you to the the 18 lucky DJs selected to compete in an Ibiza-based dream bootcamp as part of the burn Residency competition last month, we are pleased to announce that the judges have spoken. Three winners were selected out of the original 5,000 applicants, rising to the top by outspinning their peers at local mix-off competitions and impressing the judges during an intensive two-week masterclass led by the likes of Avicii, Fatboy Slim, Joe Goddard, Maceo Plex, Solomun and Steve Lawler. Now armed with an Ibiza residency and official Beatport release on burn Records, we give you the winners – remember their names.
Serbia’s Lea Dobricic won the first challenge of the competition, launching her to the final six and making an impression that left her with a residency at Privilege. Beginning her career in 2005, the 28-year-old producer specializes in deep house, minimal and techno, and has earned a following at clubs across Italy, Switzerland, Serbia and Croatia.
Tommy Kid – or Thomas Ferraré as he is known to family and Chateau Le Teuf band mates in his native France – will be celebrating his win with a residency at Sankeys Ibiza. The 31-year-old producer was proclaimed winner of the third challenge by Maceo Plex after taking the blend of bass, dub and trap he perfected in his decade of production in Paris and making it shine on the party island.
Poland’s Jan Jechna – who goes by Hyena – was the final announced winner, taking his loosely defined house and techno sound to a Cafe Mambo residency. Though the 22-year-old hadn’t yet released an original production by the start of the competition, the judges seemed confident his burn Records debut would be far from the last thing heard from the determined DJ.
Though the winners are now wrapping up their residencies, if the judges’ judgment is anything to go by, this is far from the last you’ll hear of them
