The video game has always been an influence in electronic music, whether it be in chiptune tracks, vocal samples or even group names. Bassjackers and GRX are continuing in the fine tradition with their forthcoming collab, “Gamer.” Though the grinding electro and galloping builds may be the antithesis of bouncy 8-bit, a menacing, Mario-referencing vocal lends the tune its name while the production button-pushing harkens to an intense round of Super Smash Brothers. Marking a return to Doorn/Spinnin Records for Bassjackers and a new abbreviated moniker for Martin Garrix, “Gamer” will be out November 4th.
