Copyright keep soulful house music on the menu with ‘Cross My Heart’ EP
Under their celebrated guise of Copyright, Sam Holt and Gavin Mills have continued to hold their corner as two of Defected Record’s most welcome recurring British assets. With a proven affinity for soulful yet hip shaking club fuel, their return to the label beckons two original cuts evocative of the distinct sound their two decades of collaboration have continued to muster. Accompanied by Jody Findley on topline duties, “Sacrifice” nods to the jackin’ sound of house music whilst thickening the plot with deeper and more concentrated lead work. For “Cross My Heart,” their seductive and sun-clad vocal house sound is well and truly championed, with Martha’s sleek vocal assets finishing off a truly hypnotizing nod to the sound of seasons now passed. For all the industry icons to have passed through Defected’s ranks, the fact that Copyright can still deliver upfront house necromancy like this is enough to assert confidence in the lifeblood of the genre and two of its better preserved tastemakers.
