Owl Eyes – Golden Lies (The Aston Shuffle Remix) [Preview]
Past all this talk of the Melbourne bounce, The Aston Shuffle have remained one of Australia’s key dance floor weapons for 2013. At the tail end of a year that beckoned remix duties for Empire of the Sun and The Knocks, as well as initial album single “Comfortable,” the duo is back with the intention of bringing national songstress Owl Eyes into their indie dance domain. Without the fluffy pop conformity more often found dominating such radio-friendly remixes, The Aston’s rise to the challenge of breaching mainstream and underground properties with their take on “Golden Lies.” Ascending with full bodied melodic progressions and apexing in a rush of low-end leads, the tracks wades somewhere between nostalgic indie dance and coming-of-age-deep house, offering a comfortable U-turn in sound and structure to Brooke Addamo’s blissful original. There is a damn good reason why The Aston Shuffle have become one of their countries most hotly anticipated exports, with remixes like this providing the burden of proof as to their unique hold upon the indie dance sound scope.
