Sonny Wharton – Take A Look (Original Mix)
With a successful stint for Skint Records behind him and further affirmation through his own Whartone imprint, Sonny Wharton debuts on X this month with an eager follow-up to last month’s “Booty Call.” Whilst Wharton’s more recent output has struck a far more groomed stance on the sound of house music than Angello’s impending underground powerhouse, “Take A Look” sees Fatboy Slim’s favourite UK hopeful take a damn good stab at breaching the label three-years down the line from his Size Records debut. Structurally, the track is a straight peak time crowd pleaser, grooving fluidly around subtle melodic implements and more obvious vocal samples. There is an art to instrumental tech house too often misplaced with no-frills percussive counterfeits. Sonny Wharton remains of a far higher caliber, using this successful X debut to assert that the king of the UK underground is not taking any prisoners enroute to 2014.
