UPDATE: Tickets are now $50 and an additional show has been added; Deadmau5 'got your back': Joel defends fans, stands up against promoters to lower ticket prices
He may have escaped Twitter, but Deadmau5 finds himself as interactive as ever on Reddit. Slated to play one of his “Unhooked” sets at Montreal’s New City Gas on January 3rd as an early birthday celebration in his home country, fans took to the online community to express their disappointment with the event’s total pricing of $117 per ticket. Joel (reddit_mau5) found the news surprising and responded in similar outrage, saying the promoters are “WAY overcharging,” and speaks towards them directly continuing; “throw me under the fuckin bus, make me look like I’d have the fuckin BALLS to charge people 100+.”
But it was more than just an expression of anger towards promoters and sympathy towards fans; Joel took action by contacting the promoters to lower prices, telling fans soon after that “it’s getting fixed… I got your back.” When a disgruntled fan soon after questioned the promoters willingness to budge, the artist affirmed: “they’ll fucking budge alright.”
It’s rare to see an artist stand up against the promoters of their own shows, but Deadmau5 took a strong stand to defend high ticket prices during a holiday season — a time when many have already spent disposable income. UPDATE: Tickets have been reduced to $50 each and Deadmau5 will be playing two back to back shows.
