HBO confirms electronic dance comedy show ‘Higher’ involving Calvin Harris
The movie business had Entourage and now, dance music looks set to have its first formal TV outing in 2014. With HBO behind the wheel, legendary Trainspotting author Irvine Welsh has joined forces with Calvin Harris, Will Smith and Jay Z to pen Higher, a comedy show set in the electronic dance industry. Besides an ambiguous co-producer title alongside Will and Jay, the full extent of Harris’s involvement is yet to be disclosed, but is not completely surprising given the glossy run of music videos associated with the Grammy-winning tunesmith’s own musical endeavors. Other than the fact that the show will run in 30-minute episodes and is backed by Overbrook Entertainment, Three Six Zero Group and Marcy Media little more is known about the project, but if the show can even partly match HBO’s wealth of industry-related funnies then this just might be a landmark cultural event for the electronic dance community.
