This Weekend Rewind takes us back just about 12 years ago. That’s right; this early 2000s UK Garage smash is now the age of a sixth or seventh grade child. Daniel Bedingfield’s “Gotta Get Thru This” had become a major success between 2001 and 2002 most prominently in the UK and US markets. It was the lead single off Bedingfield’s debut studio album, and may have been the project to set precedent for today’s young producers. “Gotta Get Thru This”, along with most of the album, was recorded in Bedingfield’s bedroom with his own personal equipment and software. The craft of today’s dance producers has shifted from expensive pro studios sessions to investing in DIY home studios. Daniel Bedingfield’s addictively catchy first single is an early example of a good idea’s success brought about by a fitting outlet. Even many of the biggest EDM headliners of the past few years have similar beginnings, proving anyone can achieve that breakout record in this digital age… with the right idea, practice and patience.
