Avicii’s cinematic reprise of ‘Addicted To You’ makes for video of the year front-runner

It’s safe to say that this is the best music video of the new year — top five of the last calendar year — released across electronic music. And that’s a safe place to start the discussion of the visual spectacle that’s accompanying Avicii‘s “Addicted To You.” Earning the right to be hailed as cinematic, the video comes as a short film; depicting a Bonnie & Clyde-esque relationship between two outlawed females who intertwine love and crime. Perhaps, in this case, it’d be more of a Bonnie & Bonnie affair — but that’s as close to a spoiler alert as warranted before experiencing “Addicted To You” in an element paradoxical of its portrayal amidst True. 

Music video’s that capture a timeless essence of a house record have come sparingly of late; and while some have executed, few have done so in the same taste as Avicii’s latest effort. For now, mark “Addicted To You” as front-runner for music video of the year. For now.
