Gatecrasher announces new Ibiza nightclub strand for 2014
The Ibiza club scene is much like a safari ride: It has its big five, the competition is fierce and when fresh meat enters, a wave of speculation begins as to the newcomer’s fate. Renowned British clubbing brand Gatecrasher is the latest to enter the jungle that is Europe’s clubbing capital, announcing an inaugural venture on the White Isle circuit set to commence in the 2014 summer season. Situated at the former site of Eden nightclub, the newly formed Gatecrasher spot will take the form of a 3,000-capacity venue hoped to bring a new edge to the less-glamorous San Antonio district of the infamous hedonistic island.
As the mutual brainchild of Gatecrasher MD Simon Raine and Dutch venture capitalist Michael van de Kuit, the latest addition to the island’s club circuit is said to incorporate Ibiza’s infamous club values with Vegas-style production considerations. Historically, Eden had suffered from poor numbers and unsuccessful residencies compared to that of its higher-end competition south of the island. Given the strength of the Gatecrasher brand overseas and de Kuit’s success in turning Amsterdam nightclub Panama around, this could be one of the first serious contenders to join the market since Ushuaia opened its doors back in 2011.
Details of its opening parties and residential slots are yet to be announced.
