Nils Noa – The Jaguar (Original Mix)
For more than a decade, Oslo’s Nils Noa has dealt weird and wonderful arguments for his homeland’s stake in the European house circuit. Back on the beat for his own Troll Records this month, Noa’s second instalment for the label of 2014 comes in the form of “The Jaguar,” mustering his own blissful house aura and a wealth of outspoken remixers for something of a precedent setter for DIY dance culture. His dreamy yet infectious vision for the modern house landscape comes well rehearsed, but something stirs here that truly sets miles between the Scandinavian talent and his creatively liberated peers. As a coherent afterhours cut, “The Jaguar” comes second to none, but benefits from flaunting enough compositional meat to give the track a notably timeless and near-cinematic quality. We’re used to seeing Scandinavia deal in buzz sounds and outright obscurity, but at the outset of 2014 Nils Noa strikes some harmony that is sure to lead to a much deserved spotlight as Norway’s next great house visionary.
