Outputmessage – Asteroids EP
Outputmessage – also known as one-third of chart-topping DC nu disco outfit Volta Bureau – has consistently taken a fresh approach to his solo output, exploring far-ranging space age themes through a thoughtful and ever-shifting electro pop lens. The artist’s latest effort is a three-track EP out this week on More or Less that provides a snapshot of his musical development since 2012’s excellent Quantum Love, in advance of his upcoming album The Infinite Void.
From the neo-modular noodling of title track “Asteroids” to the dreamy space echoes of “Ceres,” it’s quickly clear that this release leans more towards melodic minimal house than Quantum‘s vocal mid-tempo musings, while sacrificing none of the lush synthesizer interplay that made the latter such an engaging listen. Asteroids ends on a contemplative note with the warm panned progressions of “Vesta,” leaving the listener a bit wistful for more. Luckily, the wait won’t be long, as The Infinite Void is scheduled for a March 25th release.
