Paul Strive – People Want Techno EP
There are few career milestones that can compete with the moment when an artist is embraced by his or her idol. 20-year-old Hungarian tech house prodigy Paul Strive didn’t have to wait too long for his to arrive.
Strive, who grew up in Békéscsaba revering Dubfire and his signature brand of dark techno, this week made his debut on his hero’s SCI+TEC label with a three-track EP that exudes meticulous attention to detail. The well-crafted groove of “Matter of Pleasure” throbs its way into “Treasure’s” delirious build, before the EP concludes on a hulking and heavy note with the imposing low end pummel of “Defense.”
It’s a darker and more defined sound than the up-and-comer has previously exhibited, and it’s quite clear that Strive was determined to rise to the landmark occasion. The young producer should relish this moment, as he’s done it justice with quite simply his best output to date.
