Alesia and M.I.A. are two figureheads that have never been afraid to stir up the pot, and the trio have brought the same signature flair to their latest grungy, spit-slick collaboration, “Pull Up The People.” In a bemusing mishmash of dub-electro influences and glitch-pop beats, Alesia layers heavy synth bass lines underneath M.I.A.’s sassy, distinguished vocal chants. “Surprise, motherf*ckers,” declared the social pages that housed the OWSLA duo’s unannounced and free release, a phrase that set the tone early on for the oozing blasé attitude and abstruse nature of the fiery collaboration.
