You read that correctly. After young big room star Martin Garrix let loose his recent festival-ready “Proxy” as a free download, Russian producer Proxy took to SoundCloud to playfully respond. Posting a two minute preview of a grungy electronica track comically titled “Martin Garrix,” Proxy reclaimed his name with intensity.
While the production makes mention of the rising “Animals” star, the sound engineering and arrangement leaves Garrix’s signature synth stabs out of the picture. “Martin Garrix” refutes melodic elements as the track’s intro is almost immediately invaded by grinding synths and robotic laser-like sounds. The tongue-in-cheek titling is not meant to offend. In his own words, Proxy only desired to “return the favor” — and he reciprocates it well. While his fanbase is an emerging one stateside, Proxy has a loyal European following that has been awaiting this recently announced release.
