While Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike‘s team up with DVBBS and Borgeous, “Stampede,” stomped around the festival circuit all 2013 long, Major Lazer and P.A.F.F. have retuned it for its 2014 re-entry. Not so much a remix as an edit loosely based on the original, the rework is a glittering opus of trap, electro, and dancehall elements rearranged with little regard to the structure that preceded it. Seductive strings back an equally silky feminine vocal addition before a modified rendition of the marching melody is swept off its feet by distorted synths and hyper hi-hats. Though the bold bass still plays a prominent part, with the unconventional quartet on remix duties the tune is anything but basic.
