SBTRKT reveals 6-track instrumental Transitions EP

2014 has rapidly become the year of guerrilla releases: From Beyonce’s full-length album complete with music video counterparts to the recent enrapturing release from OWLSA head Skrillex, previews and formulaic releases are no longer the norm. Aaron Jerome, who moonlights as his mysterious alias SBTRKT, has joined the ranks of fellow surprise releasers with his entire Transitions EP.

Though the announcement of Transitions comes as a surprise, several of the tracks have hinted towards the release of the producer’s instrumental experimentation album. Just a month ago, he revealed “Hold the Line,” and explained it would be the first of a series of instrumental tracks released during an intermission period between his 2011 release and forthcoming album. To be released in three segments as separate 12″ records, SBTRKT has revealed his appropriately titled Transitions EP and given all of the tunes for free streaming.

SBTRKT’s alluring indie signature dances throughout his instrumentals, each more captivating than the next. There’s playful, there’s haunting – Jerome has captured a variety of essences through slinking synthesizer melodies and kick drum soundscapes. The first of the  Transitions vinyls will release May 5th, followed by the May 19th and final June 2nd installments.
