Their ambient stylings have already been transferred onto the work of Amtrac and Marvin Gaye alike, leading the American breakouts out to take on renowned R&B crooner Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition” into the remits of his increasingly accomplished sound. Autograf’s main industrious weapon has been immediate identity, an asset that many of the overnight house advocates of the modern crop have significantly lacked. “Superstition” is a somewhat more audacious venture, but between subtle melodic swells and impressive navigation of the original’s topline, that charm of their dual studio getup is excelled once again. If this is to be the year ambient and intricate dance music finds its solid footing on the market, Autograf might well be the new age leaders to do just that.
