Though Coldplay’s “Midnight” has taken on a spectral quality in the world of pop, it has found an unlikely home in dance music. Remixed by Marcus Schossow and Maor Levi, Norin & Rad and Kevin Wild last month, now it is none other than Tiësto that takes reigns on the haunting hit. Released for free download in celebration of hitting 17 million Facebook fans, Tiësto’s “Experimental Tech House Bootleg” may miss the tech mark but does deliver a compelling reconstruction. Diving in with a multi-layered house beat, the bootleg peppers in percussion and a miniature melody behind the vocoder before throwing in a build or two for kicks. Certainly more subtle than the Musical Freedom head’s recent productions, this “Midnight” experiment produced positive results.
