Staying true to his promises of “free music from now on,” Mat Zo follows up last week’s “Oldskool Trip” by showing his deeper side on “Real Life.” Zo leverages UK garage vibes and squeaky clean sample work to deliver a funk-fueled original that shifts and pops behind a hectic array of bouncy pads and chiming synths. Always genre-divergent, Matan plays into dance music’s ever-changing sonic landscape and incorporates a bevvy of styles and aesthetics in the shifty six-and-a-half minute output. Despite its zero-dollar price tag, Zo’s latest scoffs at the age old proverb “you get what you pay for,” and instead delivers an album-ready production for nothing but the click of your mouse.
