16 Bit Lolitas blur beautiful lines with three-track Anjuna return [EP Review]
Seamless innovators of the progressive house epithet, the force known as 16 Bit Lolitas have remained longtime sweethearts to camp Anjunadeep. Returning for the first time since 2010 – some six years since their debut EP for the label – the Beat Organ EP reigns testament to a Dutch duo brave enough to the blur the lines during a significantly ‘do-or-die’ stretch for the digital market. The airy and key-laden “Beat Organ” sets an immediate precedent to the dreamy summer house anthem, leaving “From Far Away” to explore the murkier progressive remit that Anjuna has significantly dominated throughout 2014. As “Friendly Neighbor” goes full circle with a perky yet far deeper take on the A-side’s melodic opulence, we are left with evidence of a duo talented and tenacious enough to strike a quality middle ground for two supposedly off tangent sounds. Summer proofed and evidently ready to make positive waves with their left of field antics, 16 Bit Lolitas remain elegantly poised as one of the more graceful and eclectic forces in European house music right now.
