As American Idol continues its prolific run as the original “rising star” breakthrough television series, the FOX show refuses to neglect dance music and its own rising talents during its 13th season. Whether you hate it or love it, undeniably, 2014’s song you can’t escape was awarded to the satirical “#Selfie.” This year, just as the show prepares to air its season finale, Ryan Seacrest introduced The Chainsmokers for a guest appearance. As the familiar voiceover of “#Selfie” began, the New York pair ran around the American Idol set as iPhones were raised into the air, took selfies with the crowd, and even inspired judges Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban to take selfies of their own.
