NSFW saunters with the sound of indie dance for latest Nurvous offering [EP Review]

Paving his way under the flag of THIS IS Recordings and cozying up with Nurvous Records more recently, the mysteriously shrouded producer known as NSFW should be your favorite indie dance upholder by now. Having flown relatively low under the radar since dropping “Getting Away” back in January, his third label venture comes in the form of perhaps his most definitive stab at stepping away from the status quo enroute to the summer season.

Kicking off his latest stroll with camp Nurvous, “Dubwalker” is reminiscent of that cool, calm and collected blend of 80’s infused nu-disco that the Dutch provocateur sealed his name into the upper echelon with. It draws significant parallels with “Jaywalker,” a track that boldly steps up the energy in a near-progressive extension of those familiar warm melodic hallmarks and blissfully nostalgic manoeuvres. Collectively, it’s astonishing to hear such an unassuming artist hit so many dimensions in sound given the often limited parameters of this niche sound set, owing yet further testament to NSFW’s hold on the genre right now. Respective remixes from LeSonic, Three Cool Cats & Rael Cerato make for a quality collection of talents from outside the industry safe zones, but in its original format ‘The Walker’ proves one of the finest double-sided indie dance offerings of 2014 by a long shot.
