Rare Monk – Splice (4AM Reboot)

Toronto’s Grant Alexander, the producer known as 4AM, takes on Rare Monk’s “Splice” for his latest foray into the reboot arena. Installing a four to the floor kick beneath the original’s alt rock style, 4AM’s re-imagining opens with a distinctly tech house approach, before progressive synthwork dominates the mix. Crisp percussive kicks and shifty white noise keep the after hours vibes intact, while howling samples and hollow claves catch and release the constantly ebbing energy. A cacophony of contrasting styles all fit delicately into one nearly seamless package, 4AM’s reboot inaugurates “Splice” into the minds of a whole new set of fans.
