Weekend Rewind: Rusko – Hold On (Original Mix)
Four years ago today, Rusko released his career-defining debut album, O.M.G.!, containing such revered hits as “Woo Boost,” “Raver’s Special,” and “Hold On.” At the time, Rusko was one of the iconic producers helping shape what eventually became the golden age of dubstep. Of all the tracks on the album, “Hold On” has rightfully obtained the longest legacy.
While the Sub Focus remix earned its fair share of play over the years, the original remains a true classic. The combination of minor chords with Amber Coffman’s timeless vocal performance will never fail to have a crowd swooning in nostalgia. Though Rusko’s experimentation with the wobble was in its early stages during the production of “Hold On,” there’s a beautiful simplicity to his sound design that you don’t get in today’s dubstep.
