Dancing Astronaut’s guide to the Fourth of July 2014
With Independence Day approaching, plans for the weekend’s celebrations should already be in motion. Unique from many holidays are the artists line ups for July 4th, the days to follow, and the cities with the strongest dance presence. With Atlantic City and Las Vegas offering the most options, the rest of North America has its avenues for fireworks and more; all to be explored with DA’s 2014 guide to July 4th.
Atlantic City
The biggest of July 4th bashes on the East Coast will occupy Atlantic City’s Revel, where Tiesto will be headlining HQ Beach Club for the marquee day event and Sultan + Ned Shepard will bring the party late into the night at HQ Nightclub. Even after Independence Day passes, Revel remains the weekend’s celebration haven both by day and by night, hosting DVBBS and GTA, followed by Afrojack and Eva Shaw, respectively.

Chicago
There’s a new festival in The Windy City. Making its debut, Riverwest is set to span July 4th – July 6th along the Chicago river. With acts from Art Department to Jamie Jones and a reunion show from Deep Dish, the weekend-long event is the midwest’s best bet for deeper and darker tastes.

Las Vegas
Sin City will be lit by more than just fireworks this Fourth of July, and several destinations will be hosting top tier electronic talent. Alone, the MGM grand offers headliners at all moments, with Afrojack at Wet Republic by day and Tiesto at Hakkasan by night during holiday, Calvin Harris at both venues the next, and both being closed out by Tiesto, Dada Life and The Chainsmokers. Wynn’s Encore Beach Club is hosting everyone from Macklemore through Steve Angello with XS from Martin Solveig to Zedd. And these parties only scratch the surface of Vegas whereabouts.

New York City
Everyone loves to stretch their legs outdoors with good company on this holiday weekend, and Brooklyn may offer the best event in a city full of them. BLK Market and Resolute have teamed to bring the legendary Dixon and Apollonia to headline their event at two locations. Separated into two parties, the first features a full extended set from the German producer/DJ who does not set foot in America compared to his many European counterparts. Supplementing his show is the three-headed trio playing their special showcase of Apollonia at night at an undisclosed location (what else?).
Grab your friends – this is not your usual holiday party.
Blk Market 4th of July: Tickets.
The Big Apple will be have one special reunion on July 4th, welcoming back Avicii to Governors Island three years after his debut. The concert, however, won’t be a traditional one. Being hosted by Ralph Lauren Denim & Supply, tickets can only be obtained through purchases of merchandise at participating stores.
