Fatboy Slim creates a blissful soundscape with ‘Sunset 303 (Cafe Mambo Edit)’
Be warned: If you came here looking for a ripping 303 acid tune, you’ll find yourself quite disappointed. Fatboy Slim’s latest creation was not made for raucous dance floors, but rather — as its title suggest — bleary-eyed Ibiza sunsets. Norman Cook has long been a champion of the White Isle, and with his latest edit to “Sunset 303,” Cook has contributed a blissful instrumental piece to Cafe Mambo’s 20 Years of Ibiza Chillout compilation.
The song begins by entrancing us with the sounds of a dreamy music box, only to descend into a river of 303 synths and morphing pads. This may be a far cry from his classic big beat sound and newer house productions, but we’re not complaining. While we may all know him as the life of a party, it appears Fatboy Slim has an intriguingly pensive side as well.
