Nile Rodgers – Do What You Wanna Do (Moon Boots Remix)
When Nile Rodgers emerged as Cr2’s hidden weapon to see in the International Music Summit in Ibiza back in 2013, imagination raced as to the musical turns the regenerated legend would bring to the equation along the way. In the company of MK, Eats Everything and Silversix alike, French Express stalwart Moon Boots caps off a bumper six-month spree with his own take on the official anthem for 2014, bringing his uplifting house tendencies to the table alongside the Chic front man and his undisputed disco charm.
Where the remix package’s additional mixes came up a little stiff, the North American injects immediate gusto into this infectious nod to the legacy of Rodgers and the age of disco. It’s an unlikely matching of modern house grooves, garage-esque leads and subtly deployed guitar licks, all bowing to that unforgettable chorus line. What could easily have turned in to a pre-conference gimmick emerges as a genuine attempt at making “Do What You Wanna Do” relevant to the modern dance floor – a task which Moon Boots succeeds in on every possible level.
