Defected Records have seamlessly straddled a plausible middle ground overhaul of both commercial and underground ventures. Now 15 years old and leaning somewhat towards the latter region, Deetron is back to turn his hand to Wallflower’s “Say You Won’t Ever” to seal the label’s ongoing absorption of dynamic house players.
Where the original matched vivid dance tendencies with blissful songwriting, the Balance master matches his own dreamy take on proceedings. Its complex melodic core and easy shifting drums are the stuff of afterhours ecstasy, bringing Wallflower’s original back to the club floor with a notably soft yet sufficient landing. Those chiming the tedium of modern house music and its supposed ‘deep’ shift for 2014 might want to prick an ear and rethink their criticism whilst this gem is in rotation.
