Electric Zoo cancelled due to weather
Revelers on Randall’s Island are being forced to vacate the Electric Zoo grounds as the festival shuts down due to heavy rains. Right now festival officials have set a potential re-entry time of 6:15, but the festival will not re-open until the weather advisory ends. Stay tuned for more information.
Electric Zoo has been officially cancelled and will not be re-opening. The festival made the following statement:
“Electric Zoo has made the decision to shut down the festival for the remainder of the day. We apologize to our fans, but ultimately our main concern is for the safety and security of all attendees, artists and staff.”
A source familiar with the discussions surrounding yesterday’s evacuation and cancellation said that there was a debate between New York City officials and Electric Zoo organizers after the severe weather evacuation whether or not to cancel the remainder of the show. Electric Zoo organizers wanted to reopen the doors and continue the festival but the city made the call to shut it down after flash flood warnings for the area continued.
