Diplo graces Billboard’s cover and discusses new music with Madonna
While Diplo‘s female-dominant fan base of ‘Random White Girls’ lust over his new headshot debut on Billboard’s most recent issue, the full magazine piece focuses less on the producer’s background or future plans and instead zeroes in on news of his recent collaborations with pop superstar Madonna, his relationship with Katy Perry and is 8-figure lifestyle. Details of the unexpected duo’s time in the studio together have spread (including a total of seven songs he’s written for her along with one titled, ‘Bitch I’m Madonna‘), and it seems that still more of the story continues to unfold in Diplo’s Billboard article.
For those who have filed the Mad Decent champion away as a producer only looking to generate party music, his disagreement with Madonna’s choice to ‘pop-ify’ a song of theirs may surprise you. In regards to an unnamed track the two created, he clarified his opinion. “[The song] went from a piano ballad to a ‘Turn Down for What’-style song, which I didn’t like. Now it’s somewhere in the middle.”
However, after three alcohol-fueled studio sessions, the two seem to have stumbled upon something pleasingly different, even according to Diplo himself: “One [song] is super weird,” he explained. “Late one night in the studio we got a little bit drunk and she improvised a little hook and we made a song out of it. I think it’s going to be a breakthrough if she can manage to get everything together and get it out properly.”
