Funkin Matt makes Musical Freedom debut with Alive EP

Oslo’s Funkin Matt has asserted himself globally with releases on Mad Decent, Fool’s Gold, Mixmash and his own label Fjordin Records with Gregor Salto. Now making his debut on Tiësto’s powerful Musical Freedom entity, the producer has joined an illustrious list of stars who have released music on the Dutch kingpin’s label.

The two-track EP is a slight departure from the big room uniformity found on the label’s previous releases, as both “Alive” and “Evila” follow the lead that Oliver Heldens’ “Gecko” created. Not necessarily tailored to be championed on main stages, the pair of original mixes feature dark grooves that have an underground flair. Although not relenting on the principles of quality established by previous releases, the Alive EP presents a distinctive shift for the Musical Freedom brand.
